Exodus

Exodus tells the story of an enslaved people becoming a nation. It begins with oppression and the birth of Moses, moves through the call at the burning bush, the plagues and the first Passover, and reaches its most remembered moment: the crossing of the sea. The second half changes tone. At Sinai, the people receive the Ten Commandments and the instructions for the tabernacle — the tent where God's presence would travel with them. In the middle of it stands the golden calf episode, showing how short memory is and how decisive intercession can be. Exodus is the book that defines Israel's identity: a people who were slaves, were rescued and must treat the foreigner remembering that.
