Isaiah

Isaiah is the longest of the prophets and one of the most quoted in the New Testament. The first half of the book is harsh: it denounces social injustice, failed political alliances and empty worship, announcing judgment on Judah and the nations. From chapter 40 the tone changes completely, with the command "comfort my people" and a sequence of restoration promises — including the famous "those who wait for the Lord will renew their strength". In chapters 42 to 53 the "Servant Songs" appear, describing a figure who suffers for others; chapter 53 is read by Christians as a portrait of Jesus. The book ends with the vision of new heavens and a new earth.
